Vulnerable. Polar bears face the risk of becoming extinct, making them a vulnerable species. The biggest threat to their survival is the loss of sea ice from climate change.
Lifespan
Polar bears live an average of 15 to 18 years in the wild, but occasionally can live up to 30 years.
Size
A baby polar bear weighs only 1-1.5 pounds at birth, while adult males can weigh up to 1,300 pounds!
Appearance
A polar bear’s transparent fur reflects the sun, making it appear white or yellow. Underneath their thick fur, the polar bear’s skin is black to absorb warmth from the sun.
Travel
Polar bears will travel extensively to find food. They can swim up to 6 miles per hour and can gallop as fast as a horse over short distances.
